The Academy for Educational Development (AED) is an independent, nonprofit organization committed to addressing human development needs in the United States and throughout the world. To that end, AED's Center on AIDS & Community Health's (COACH) Project APHIA II Nyanza (APHIA = AIDS, Population, and Health Integrated Assistance; Nyanza is the focus province) is a 4 and ½ -year program funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) which aims to improve and expand facility and community-based HIV/AIDS, reproductive health/family planning and maternal and child health services in the Nyanza province.
The APHIA II Nyanza consortium consists of the following agencies: EngenderHealth, the Academy for Educational Development (AED), the Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK), the Inter-Diocesan Christian Community Services (IDCCS), and the Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH).
AED is also responsible for improving and expanding care for people and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Expected results include expanded home and community support programs, support for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), and reduced stigma and establishment of safety nets for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and establishment of safety nets for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and their families.
AED currently seeks a Community Care Advisor to be responsible for the effective and efficient implementation of APHIA II Nyanza/AED's program activities in Nyanza province. S/he will ensure that APHIA II Nyanza/AED's comprehensive program of support to people and families affected by HIV/AIDS (PLWHA, OVC, and their caregivers) is delivered and that the capacity of community-based organization (CBO) partners is strengthened.

- MA and twelve (12) years of experience in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and work.
- Experience in HIV/AIDS programming, working with development agency coalitions, and community development work.
- Experience in management of community mobilization, training, procurement, financial and monitoring records and reporting.
- Experience working in Southern Africa highly desired.
- Prior USAID contracts experience and knowledge of U.S. government regulations a plus.
