TweetThis! Brussels Internship Position, Economic Policy and Agriculture Policy

GMF's Brussels office awards competitive, paid internships to highly motivated graduate students. Interns work closely with senior staff and provide research and administrative support. The major responsibilities include: assisting with administrative and logistical duties; assisting with the preparation of meetings, events and conferences; tracking and researching a wide range of transatlantic issues; attending and reporting on GMF events. Since the internship takes place in Brussels, interns are often able to attend various EU related events.

Currently the following positions are open:

Economic Policy Internship Position: The Economic Policy Program is searching for an intern to work on transatlantic economic and trade issues. The program strives to advance prosperity, opportunity, stability and good governance in the transatlantic community and around the world. The program's main objectives are 1) engaging policymakers on the issues facing the transatlantic economy while taking into account the shared responsibility for the overall health and stability of the global economy and 2) strengthening the transatlantic trade relationship in order to advance a pro-development trade liberalization agenda and help the world's poor better benefit from globalization.

A strong interest in economic policy issues and a background in economics, international trade policy and/or international relations is required.

Deadline for applications is June 30, 2009. The position begins August 1st.

Agriculture Policy Internship Position: The Economic Policy Program is searching for an agriculture policy intern. GMF's agriculture project strives to advance prosperity, opportunity, stability and good governance in the transatlantic community and around the world. The project's main objectives are 1) engaging policymakers on the transatlantic issues facing agriculture while taking into account the shared responsibility on agriculture, trade, and development and 2) working toward reduced protection for European agriculture and improved incentives and conditions for farmers in developing countries.

A strong interest in agriculture and economic policy issues and a background in agriculture, economics and/or international relations is required.

Deadline for applications is June 30, 2009. The position begins in August.

Brussels Forum Internship Position: The German Marshall Fund in Brussels is looking for an intern to join the Brussels Forum team. Brussels Forum is an annual major political event which brings together high-level international participants and speakers from politics, business, media and academia. For more information on the event see http://www.brusselsforum.org/.

Major responsibilities include assisting with administrative and logistical duties; being the point of contact for all Brussels Forum participants, doing research on speakers and assisting GMF staff in all other preparations regarding Brussels Forum. The intern needs to be willing to work long hours in the run-up to the event. Experience in event management is an asset.

Deadline for applications is June 30, 2009. The position begins at the end of August.

Internship Qualifications: To be considered for an internship, we require candidates to be fluent in English and preferably French and/or another European language, have excellent written and oral communications skills, be proficient with Microsoft Office, be able to handle diverse administrative tasks, have good research skills, and a strong interest in U.S.-European issues.

The period of the internship is 6 months for the economic positions and 9 months for the Brussels Forum position.
