Yahoo! Briefcase officially closing on March 30, 2009. Be careful now, read this post...
A friend of mine sent me an email with a forwarded message asking if it was true that Yahoo Briefcase is closing. I went ahead and opened my yahoo inbox in which I found similar message. I then visited the Yahoo Briefcase Help page and found some helpful links about the message. So it is true, Yahoo Briefcase is closing down and you need to download your files if you had any stored in there.
So what if Yahoo Briefcase if closing?
The reason I am posting this is to save some innocent souls out there from predators because, unfortunately, some internet thieves have started to distort the original Yahoo message with the aim of gaining some financial income out of this.
What should I do then?
Please read carefully Yahoo's authentic message in order to avoid being scammed.
Here are some tips that I think can help you out. (see images below).
Do I have to speculate? Well, from my understanding, it could be Yahoo Briefcase is closing because of an Economic downturn, and thus, just like any other company, Yahoo is also cleaning all of its cabinets, throw away what is not necessary for its survival and keep the vital services alive.
But, that's not all, Yahoo's briefcase has been receiving little user attention when compared to it's giant (and underdog) rivals, therefor, in order for Yahoo to keep up the ability to provide some excellent services, they have decided to let others go (employees and services), thus for example you will agree that Yahoo Briefcase will be sacrificed on the their Unlimited Yahoo Inbox storage as well as Flickr.

- Do not click any link from any message, instead, copy and paste it in the address bar on your browser where you normally type web addresses.
- Do not pay anything to anybody with regard to Yahoo's message. There is no where from official yahoo message that states they require payments, not even from their premium members, let alone free users. Yahoo has promised to refund portion of subscription fee to it's premium members/users, these people should have their account updated in order to receive the refund.
- The only service that is closing is Yahoo Briefcase. Do not be carried away by the messages such as Yahoo.com is closing or Yahoo Messenger is closing etc. There are variations of these tampered with email messages, so be very very careful.
- Do not worry about loosing the attachments you receive(d) in your regular yahoo mail inbox, those will not be affected by the closing down of Yahoo's Briefcase. FYI, Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Briefcase operates differently.
