TweetThis! PhD scholarship Citizenship, Volunteering and Organise Civil Society. A European Perspective

The PhD programme of Welfare, Governance and Citizenship within the Department of Society and Globalisation, Roskilde University, hereby announces a PhD scholarship for a PhD project on a comparative study of ‘Citizenship, Volunteering and Organised Civil Society – A European perspective’. (The PhD project is described more in detail at the homepage of ISG: www.ruc.dk/isg/phd-programme). The scholarship will be available from 1st of September 2009 or soon after.

The scholarship
covers a period of three years. It is a condition for a successful project that the candidate is fluent in one of the Scandinavian languages. The successful applicant will be asked to contribute with 500 hours of work to the Department (teaching at one of the Department’s Master’s programmes and dissemination of research to a broader audience etc.). The annual salary is based on previous governmental employments and the general agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) (annually by October 1, 2008: 249.777 – 328.784 DKK + pension contribution). The successful candidate should also preferably stay six to twelve months abroad. For the purpose of this project the graduate school is cooperating with Centre for research on Civil Society and Voluntary Sector, Institute for Social Research (ISF), Oslo, Stockholm School of Economics, and Tilburg University (SCP), the Netherlands.

We are looking for a candidate with a master’s degree (or equivalent) in sociology, political science, public administration or a similar graduate background

The application
must be in English and include a CV, documentation (copies) of examinations passed and a project description of maximum 5 pages. The description should include an outline of the problem area to be studied – here the enclosed description of the project must be reflected - , the research questions raised, the theoretical approach taken and methodological considerations, as well as a work and time plan. The project description and other material should be forwarded in three hard copies to:
