The BFT is no longer a member of AIBA
It is learned that the Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) has been stripped off it's Amateur International Boxing Associations (AIBA) membership following the resignation of the Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) executive committee last month. However, it is believed that the main force behind this move is related to the illicit drug trafficking scandal facing the BFT .
The decision to close the doors was reached at the AIBA executive committee’s extraordinary meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland and Tanzania's scandal was the main agenda.
The allegations that involves the boxers Emilian Patrick and Petro Mtagwa and coach Nassor Michael, were that the suspects had conspired with three other Tanzanians namely Elia Nathaniel, Case Ramadhan and Ally Msengwa, and a Kenyan Priscilla Nduiti to smuggle heroin into Mauritiuus when going to participate in the African Boxing Championships 2008.
The BFT president Mr. Shaaban Mintanga is currently remanded in prison awaiting trial following his arrest in connection with the charges.
