Prof. Haroub Othman is no more [update]

There are unconfirmed reports out there saying that Prof. Haroub Othman of the University of Dar-Es-Salaam has passed away a few moments ago in Zanzibar. Prof. Othman was in Zanzibar launching his new book.
The person who sen it in, in one e-group says:

I’m shocked, a friend and a parent for me, and this is a report from a friend of mine via MSN, we shall know as day unfolds, apparently had cardiac arrest.

Mroki Mroki, a Tanzania blogger based in Dar es Salaam posts in Kiswahili in his blog that Prof. Othman was in Zanzibar attending the Dhow Festival he met his death while sleeping.

Mhadhiri wa Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es salaam, Prof Haroub Othman (pichani) amefariki dunia alfajiri ya leo katika Kisiwa cha Unguja mjini Zanzibar. Habari zilizoifikia blog hii zinasema Prof. Othman alifariki akiwa usingizini na usiku alikuwa katika tamasha la Majahazi lililoanza jana visiwani humo.

Issa Michuzi, Dar es Salaam based blogger confirms the death of Professor Haroub Othman through his son, Tahir Haroub Othman

MWANA WA MAREHEMU, TAHIR OTHMA, AKITHIBITISHA HABARI HII AKIWA NJIANI KUELEKEA MSIBANI AKITOKEA DAR, AMEIAMBIA GLOBU YA JAMII KWAMBA MAREHEMU AMEKUTWA AMEFARIKI ASUBUHI HII AMBAPO JANA ALILALA AKIWA BUHERI WA AFYA.

It is expected that Professor Othman will be laid to rest in Unguja, Zanzibar (not sure of date nor time for burial).

This blog sends condolences to the immediate family of the late Professor Haroub Othman, all Tanzanians and the rest of the world who knew him, especially for his keen contribution to socio-political and academic matters.

You provided me with so much insight to many socio-political world issues. I would listen to you or read any of your writings in order to gain understanding on the various national and international social-political situations. Your analysis always taught me something I didn't knew, giving a perspective that I never thought abut. I have rally missed a great guide in this part of life. I will always remember you through your work. My prayers are with you. You will be remembered! May your soul find a rest in eternal peace.

Marehemu atazikwa Unguja kesho siku ya Jumatatu, Juni 29 mwaka wa 2009 katika eneo la Kilimani, Zanzibar. Kwa mujibu wa mdogo wa marehemu, Ali Miraji Othman, familia imekubali kuwa hiki kilikuwa ni kifo cha kawaida, kwa hivyo haitafanya uchunguzi wowote ule.
