International Fulbright Science and Technology Award
INTERNATIONAL FULBRIGHT SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Ph.D. AWARDS AY 2010-2011
The International Fulbright Science and Technology Award is designed to be among the most prestigious international scholarships in the scientific field. It provides outstanding students with an opportunity to pursue PhD study at top U.S. universities.
For academic year 2010-2011, approximately 40 awards will be competed worldwide.
Eligible fields include:
Aeronautics and Astronomics/Aeronautical Engineering, Astronomy/Planetary Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Sciences/Engineering, Engineering (electrical, chemical, civil, mechanical, ocean, and petroleum), Environmental Science/ Engineering, Geology/Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Information Sciences and Systems (engineering focus only), Materials Science/ Engineering, Mathematics, Neuroscience/Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Public Health (theoretical research focus only), Oceanography, and Physics.
The Office of Academic Exchange Programs (ECA/A/E) at the U.S. Department of State will fund grants for up to three years for this competition. After three years, U.S. universities will be expected to cover the remaining expenses toward completion of a PhD. Placement of students will be handled by the Institute of International Education (IIE).
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
All candidates will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, and sex.
SELECTION PROCEDURES
Initial screenings will be conducted by the Fulbright Commission. Up to two nominees from each country will be reviewed by a U.S.-based selection committee, which will include Nobel Laureates, prominent academics and professionals in the appropriate scientific fields.

A complete application set must be submitted in 3 identical copies.
All items should be translated into English.

- Applicants must have Bulgarian citizenship (green card holders and persons with double citizenship are ineligible)
- Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor's degree before August 1, 2010.
- Applicants should be proficient in English with a recent iBT TOEFL score of 93 p. or higher.
- Applicants must take the GRE test (selected principal candidates will be reimbursed for their test registration fee).
- Applicants should be under 40 years of age and in sound health.
- Students already studying in the U.S. are ineligible to apply for the grant.
