Clinical Trial Vacancies - Tanzania (Muheza and Korogwe)
Several international clinical trials in diagnosis and treatment of severe malaria and febrile illnesses in children are underway at Teule Designated District Hospital in Muheza and Magunga Hospital in Korogwe. More clinical trials are due to start soon and we are recruiting clinical staff to join our research team to assist in monitoring and management of paediatric patients in both hospitals. The research team works closely with the hospital staff to provide integrated care to sick children. The applicants will thus be expected to be team player within the research team as well as the hospital’s staff. Applications are invited from qualified Tanzanian citizens for the following posts:
CLINICAL TRIAL MEDICAL OFFICER (1 post)
Qualifications and Experience
Medical Doctor with clinical experience in paediatric care post internship
Previous involvement in research project will be an added advantage
Should be computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet and Email

PGSS 15-16 depending on working experience

CLINICAL TRIAL NURSES (3 posts)
Qualifications and Experience
PGSS 9-12 depending on working experience

Interviews for these positions will be held halfway June 2009 and the posts are expected to start soon after. Qualifications and Experience

Duties and Responsibilities
- Screening and enrolment of subjects according to the study protocol(s).
- Provide medical care to children taking part in the clinical trial as well as other general patients
- To ensure safe administration of treatments and drugs that are given within the context of a clinical trial and accurate documentation of data collected into the source and case report forms
- Perform any other duty assigned by Project Leader
PGSS 15-16 depending on working experience

Magunga Hospital, Korogwe
CLINICAL TRIAL NURSES (3 posts)
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in nursing with working experience in hospital; especially in paediatric care
- Previous involvement in research project will be an added advantage
- Willingness to learn and having special interest in care of the acutely ill patient
- Good spoken and written English is required
- Screening, recruitment, consenting, administrating study interventions, clinical monitoring of trial patients, and making the relevant documentations accurately as per study protocol.
- To ensure an open dialogue to the parents/guardians of the study participants to ensure that they remained fully informed about the purpose and requirements of the clinical trial.
- To undertake other duties, which are broadly in line with the above key roles and responsibilities.
