SCHOLARSHIPS
* The University has introduced new competitive scholarships for overseas fee paying students starting Masters programmes in September 2009 or January 2010.
* A total of five full tuition fee waiver scholarships will be awarded, so, if you are successful, you will pay no course fees.
* Two tuition fee scholarships will be open to all international (non EU) students for taught Masters programmes only.
* Three tuition fee scholarships will be awarded to the strongest applications from Japan, Pakistan, and East Africa for taught Masters programmes only.
* Candidates will be required to complete a scholarship application form, including the submission of an essay on a given topic.
* Deadline for applications is 31 July 2009
£1,000 annual scholarships for qualified students
International students applying to York St John University, who start their studies in September 2009 and are paying the full international student fee, are eligible for a scholarship of £1,000 per year if they take a Masters programme or a three or four-year undergraduate (BA/BSc) programme.
To be eligible for a £1,000 reduction in the annual tuition fee, you must meet the following criteria:
* Meet the entry requirements for the degree programme you have chosen
* Be a full-fee paying overseas students
* Enrol for the three or four-year degree or for a one year Masters programme
The scholarship will be awarded for each year that you enrol on the undergraduate degree. The scholarship is not usually available to students coming from a partner institution of York St John University.
International Fee Waiver Scholarships for academic year 2009/10
York St John University is introducing new scholarships giving full tuition fee waiver for overseas fee paying students applying for entry to Masters programmes in academic year 2009-10. Successful students will pay no tuition fee for the programme on which they are accepted.
Terms of the scholarships
* Five full fee scholarships will be awarded for the academic year 2009-10
* the scholarships will be available for applicants to all taught Masters degrees of the University
* two of the five scholarships will be open to all international (overseas fee status) students
* three of the scholarships will be awarded to the most able students from each of three geographical areas, as follows:
* scholarships will be given to the most able students as evidenced by their completion of the international scholarship application form (see attached) and by their original candidate statement and/or letter of application. The University reserves the right to request further evidence where necessary.
* the award of the scholarships will be determined by the University Committee on Scholarships and Prizes. The decision of the committee is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
* the deadline for applications for scholarships for students entering in September 2009 or January 2010 is 31 July 2009
* successful applicants will be notified within two weeks of the application deadline

Students who have been offered a place on the following Masters programmes can apply for the full fee scholarship:
* Counselling
* Educational Leadership and Management
* TESOL
* Fine Arts
* Leadership and Management
* Leading Innovation and Change
* Literature Studies
* Performance
* Professional Health Studies
* Sport Psychology
* Theology and Religious Studies

Scholarship regulations

- applicants must be privately funded and not holding another award or donor funding covering the payment of tuition fees
- applicants must have accepted an unconditional offer of a place on a full-time taught Masters programme at the University on the York campus starting in the academic year 2009-10
- the chosen course must be a taught Masters degree of one year’s duration of York St John University
- these scholarships do not apply to research students or students on offsite delivery programmes
- applicants must not have previously been enrolled on the course concerned, or previously enrolled on a Bachelors degree course at the University
- applicants must not have previously received a scholarship from the University
- scholarships are not transferable and must be taken up in the academic year for which they are allocated
- these scholarships are not open to York St John University staff
- in accepting a scholarship successful applicants agree to be profiled on the University website and participate in other University promotions.
- if the scholarship winner withdraws from study during the Masters programme for which the scholarship was awarded, the scholarship is withdrawn and any fees owing are payable by the student
