TweetThis! WHO provides Tanzania with Tamiflu to combat swine flu

The World Health Organization (WHO) has provided Tanzania with a total of 51,128 doses of Tamiflu, a drug which has been proved effective in the fight against the A/H1N1 influenza (swine flu), in prevention of a spillover of the disease to the East African country. The drug will be given to Tanzania (mainland and island of Zanzibar). According to the government sources, Zanzibar gets 1,056 of the total dose.

Tanzania has so far not detected any case of A/H1N1 influenza infection. The country has set up medical check-ups at its major entry points at international airports and land cross-overs.

The human cases of A/H1N1 influenza  was first reported in Mexico on 23 April 2009. It  has, by June 1, reached 62 countries causing a total of 115 deaths and 17,410 confirmed infection in people.
