DESCRIPTION

The Director of Programs (DoP)  position plays an important central role in the developmentimplementationand evaluation of our international and domestic programs advancing Media Impact's worldwide mission.  Media Impact seeks a creative, inspirational individual with demonstrated success working in multiple regions of the world in the field of communications for development (or related media, health or internatonal development field.) 
PCI-Media Impact's pioneering approach uses creative media, the power of storytelling and the reach of broadcast media to mobilize individual, community and political action in the areas of sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, environmental conservation and sustainable development, and human rights and democracy.
PCI-Media Impact has trained hundreds of organizations and community leaders in the effective use of media and broadcast more than 242 productions in 27 countries, including radio and television serial dramas, comic books, documentaries and public service announcements.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The DoP is responsible for developing and promoting new business, funding and program opportunities utilizing and leveraging Media Impact's assets.  The DoP manages all aspects of the implementation of Media Impact's worldwide broadcast programming using an entertainment education strategy emphasizing community involvement, sustainability, and observable impact.  The DoP has at his/her disposal a capable and creative team of experienced program staff, field coordinators and trainers to insure implementation of programs by our local partners meets stated objectives,thereby achieving sustainable impact.   Media Impact is a pioneer in communications for development, placing the DoP in a unique position to advocate for the effective use of communications in improving the health of the world's poorest and most vulnerable people closing the gap between knowledge and action.   Writing and speaking on use of communications to address this topic will be critical tools in advancing Media Impact's mission. 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstration of creative leadership in the field of communications for development, with experience using an entertainment education methodology to improve the health of the world's poorest and most vulnerable populations. 
  • Emphasis on a "worldwide" portfolio of experience in communications,  international development, or broadcasting, with at least five years at the senior-management level.  
  • High degree of proficiency in developing relationships with key constituencies, including  government representatives, NGOs, corporate sponsors, not-for-profits and for-profit counterparts, donors and community leaders leading to funding opportunities. Experience working with international media, broadcasters and creative and production staff strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage human, financial, and material resources to achieve objectives, and ability to collaborate with other senior managers to provide cohesive sense of leadership.
  • Excellent writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Advanced degree in international relations, public administration, communications or other related field. Commitment to maintaining currency in trends in international development issues through continuing education, speaking, training, teaching, or publication.
  • Must be a team player and facilitate a team atmosphere
  • Strong sense of diplomacy, with highly developed sense of personal integrity that places organizational mission and priorities before personal interests.
  • Additional languages in one or more of PCI-Media Impact's program languages is a plus.
  • Willing and able to travel extensively to international locations on a frequent basis (approx. 25%-40% of time).
