TweetThis! FYI: Tanzania designates hospital to hold influenza A/H1N1 suspects

The public health authorities of Tanzania have designated a hospital in Dar es Salaam as the quarantine clinic for A/H1N1 suspects, though the country has so far no reported case of possible infection.

Monday's edition of the Daily News newspaper quoted Donan Mbando, director of preventive services under the Tanzanian health ministry, as saying that the country is on maximum alert so as to prevent people from contracting the deadly disease.
The Amana Hospital in Dar es Salaam has been chosen as the emergency quarantine clinic for the disease.

The ministry has also deployed special teams at the Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam and other entry points to monitor people arriving with symptoms of the disease.

The health ministry official explained that the international airport in Dar es Salaam is a crucial entry point for surveillance after South Africa has reported two suspected cases of infection.
