The College of Education and Lifelong Learning is offering 2 of the Anniversary studentships. We welcome applications from Home/EU and International students.
Studentships
Each holder of a PhD studentship receives an annual maintenance grant of £12,500 (for 2009/10) and an annual research allowance of up to £1,500 (for approved expenditure) with the core grant rising by £500 p.a. Studentship holders do not pay fees. No additional allowances are payable. Successful studentship applicants will be expected to supply around 100 hours per year of teaching/Research Assistance focused on a superviser / research team as part of their development as an academic of the future.
125th Anniversary Scholarships Application Procedure and Further Requirements
The expectation is that a person awarded a Scholarship will complete a PhD over a three year full-time period.
The exact topic for the research will be agreed with the supervisors.
We seek applicants who are interested in the areas outlined above, but we are happy to discuss precise details in order to develop the best possible topic. A copy of an official full transcript of their academic results for the course(s) followed in the candidate’s first degree/MA is required, highlighting the modules of particular relevance to the scholarship. Details of other relevant experience may be given.
Two academic referees are required. One should preferably be from a dissertation supervisor.
The person awarded the scholarship is likely to have a First or Upper Second Honours degree, and either an MA or other relevant experience. While careful and supportive supervision will be provided, we seek a person who is self-motivated, conscientious, and enjoys researching.
You should state the nature and extent of your linguistic abilities and qualifications if your first language is not English or Welsh.
A room will be available throughout the period of research, equipped with computer, printer and access to the internet.
Research skills training will be provided. The research approach adopted is likely to include a mix of methods (ie both qualitative and quantitative). We welcome applications from those graduating from a range of disciplines, however the general research area is likely to be of particular interest to those with a first degree in education, psychology, linguistics or speech therapy.
Applicants may be asked to attend for interview in Bangor. Interviews will take place during late June or early July.
