U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam employment opportunity - Painter/Detailer
The U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam is seeking an individual for the position of Painter/Detailer, in the General Service section.
Note: All applicants must be residing in country and have the required work and/or residency permits allowing employment in country prior to applying for this position to be eligible for consideration.
BASIC FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Performs skilled painting work on structures and associated equipment of office, buildings, residential quarters and other buildings of the mission.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent deals with all phases and types of Building Finished surfaces. This includes sanding, filling, priming and painting with a variety of types of paint selected by the Painter/Detailer.
Maintains employee residencies, Offices, Warehouse complex, FM Shop and all other government owned or leased buildings by painting all interior surface areas, to include walls, floors, ceilings, baseboards, doors, window frames, casements, cupboards and closets. May be required to paint exterior surface areas; i.e. roofs, walls, curbstones, gates, guard houses etc.
Analyzes damages or cracked surfaces and provides solutions to cosmetic problems. Where color matching and surface texturing may be required. The individual must keep current with modern surface treatment and technology. Repairs walls, ceilings, window frames and doors in preparation for painting; i.e. fills holes and cracks, repairs concrete areas, scrapes and sandpapers etc.
Requires a basic knowledge of plastering and dry-wall installation, both with new and repair requirements.
Performs job activities and duties in a responsible manner to avoid the creation of safety or health hazards; Confirms to established safety and health policies and procedures; properly utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment as required by job activity; informs supervisor of all accidents, illnesses and injuries; promptly reports unsafe or hazardous conditions.

Education: Completion of Elementary School (Standard VII) is required.
Prior experience: Must have at least two years of previous experience as a Painter.
Language proficiency: Level I (Rudimentary in English and Level II (Limited knowledge) in Kiswahili (speaking, writing and reading) is required.
Knowledge: Knowledge of minor maintenance practices and procedures and knows how to use hand tools of the painting trade.
Skills and Abilities: Painting skills necessary. Ability to use paint brushes, small hand tools and power tools of the trade areas worked on. Ability to drive an added advantage.
