TweetThis! Open call for 8 PhD scholarships - University Medical Center Groningen (The Netherlands)

Eight PhD scholarships are available for joint projects between the University Medical Center Groningen- Graduate School of Medical Sciences and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMNS; for details see the FMNS website). If you are interested such a scholarship for 1 of the 38 projects (see below), you are welcome to fill out the application form (click button at the appropriate project below!! ). You will receive an automatic reply and your data will be filed. Be aware of the fact that this is a student position. More information about financial circumstances in Groningen can be found at the website.

Fundamental requirements are: A Master degree in a relevant field, and a good command of English (spoken, written, listening and reading comprehension). PhD-students should have a minimum of 580 TOEFL or 80 TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a foreign language) or equivalent (such as the IELTS test of the British Council, minimum score 6.5). The Designated Institution Code (DI) of our University for TOEFL is: 7191.

Candidates will be selected in two rounds. In a first round (deadline for application 01 May 2009), about 50 candidates will be selected on the basis of application materials. Each of these candidates will then be asked to provide additional information (e.g. a complete CV, letter of motivation, academic transcripts (undergraduate and master’s level coursework), 2-3 reference letters (three preferred) written by individuals who know the candidate very well). Subsequently, they will be brought in contact with a potential thesis advisor and asked to write a research proposal. In a second round, a definite selection will take place on the basis of the application materials, the project proposal, and a (tele-)interview. The final selection of candidates will occur inlate June 2009, at which time potential supervisors (promotors) will express their willingness to host the candidate. Students awarded UE scholarships are expected to enroll as a cohort in the fall of 2009.

Other calls for PhD-student fellowships
If you are interested in a future PhD-student position at one of GUIDE research institutes you are welcome to fill out the application form (click button below). You will receive an automatic reply. Your data will be filed at GUIDE office and will be available for GUIDE vacancies for 6-9 months. After 9 months your data will be automatically deleted. Should you still be interested after that period, it is possible to send in a new application. At this moment there are 6 PhD-student positions available in GUIDE. Be aware of the fact that this is a student position. More information about financial circumstances in Groningen can be found at the GUIDE website.
